I think of psychotherapy as talk therapy. You’ve come to treatment because you are in pain or struggling with something important. Through the process of having an active conversation, we try to understand why you have come to therapy, how your past influences your present, and what might be getting in the way of you achieving your goals. Therapy works by helping you put your experiences and feelings into words. This is not as easy as it sounds, since we have learned to guard against experiences and emotions that provoke anxiety. Therapy is a collaborative process, through curiosity and insights, in which we try to understand your mind and the problems you are facing.
We start with a two or three session consultation to understand why you are seeking therapy and to establish if we are good fit. We talk about how therapy might be helpful for you and to explore all of your treatment options. After we have agreed that therapy is the best course of action, we discuss how often you should come and make a standing appointment.
